Fruit trees & agroforestry
Develop nurseries, propagate useful trees and strengthen planting and care skills.
Green Harvest Initiative
Fruit trees, healthy growing, practical learning and reliable water for farming in Musanze.
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Musanze District, Rwanda
Food, fruit trees, gardens, skills and livelihoods
Reliable water for nurseries and growing
THE CHALLENGE
Farmers and families need practical ways to improve nutrition, diversify what they grow and strengthen livelihoods while responding to soil, climate and water constraints.
Who it supports: farming households, young people, community volunteers and local growers who can benefit from practical food production, nursery skills and stronger links to livelihood opportunity.
WHAT WE DO
Develop nurseries, propagate useful trees and strengthen planting and care skills.
Support household, school and demonstration gardens for vegetables, nutrition and practical learning.
Connect local knowledge with technical guidance on soil, crops, tree care, nutrition and market opportunity.
Use solar-powered irrigation where appropriate to support nurseries, farms and demonstration plots as a tool for more reliable farming.
CURRENT STAGE
Nursery and practical growing work is developing with community participation and technical mentorship. Reliable water remains a key constraint, so irrigation and water storage are priorities before larger expansion.
Strengthen seedling care, nursery organisation and the practical systems needed to keep young trees healthy.
Organise practical community learning around planting, growing, nutrition and long-term tree care.
Prioritise reliable water storage and irrigation before increasing the scale of nursery and garden activity.
One step already taken: Community members have begun fruit-tree nursery work with practical mentorship.
2031 DIRECTION
Trees
Fruit, shade and agroforestry trees grown and distributed through Nurtiva-supported work.
Healthy gardens
Household, school and demonstration gardens established.
Solar irrigation systems
Installed to support nurseries, farms and demonstration plots.
These are 2031 organisational goals connected to this work — not results already achieved.
TAKE PART
Partner, volunteer, contribute technical knowledge or support the practical resources communities need to grow and maintain the work.
